Guest Lecture on “Toward Net-Zero: The Transformative Potential of EU-India Climate and Energy Relations” by Prof. Dr. Annika Bose Styczynski (10/04)

On 10 April 2026, the EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies Department organised a guest lecture on “Toward Net-Zero: The Transformative Potential of EU-India Climate and Energy Relations” by Prof. Dr. Annika Bose STYCZYNSKI (O.P. Jindal Global University), who joined live from the Delhi NCR, India.

Most recently, relations between the European Union (EU) and India have regained in importance, epitomised by the conclusion of the “mother of all deals” (European Commission President von der Leyen) – a Free Trade Agreement concluded in January 2026.

As major greenhouse gas emitters committed to pursuing a clean energy transition aimed at attaining net-zero emissions, both partners are also engaging in climate and energy matters, bilaterally via the Clean Energy and Climate Partnership (CECP) and multilaterally within the United Nations climate regime.

Against this backdrop, Prof. Bose STYCZYNSKI discussed the foundations of India’s climate and energy policies, with a particular focus on the evolution of its nationally determined contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, offering valuable insights into the underlying rationale. She also explored opportunities for further EU-India cooperation, highlighting the potential for a mutually beneficial co-evolution towards cleaner energy systems.
