EU Energy Policy

3-6 November 2026 / Bruges, Belgium

About the course

This programme provides participants with essential tools to understand the core components of EU energy policy and the governance frameworks used to address both internal and external challenges across multiple sectors.

In the context of the Clean Industrial Deal, the course explores the EU's efforts to ensure competitiveness while safeguarding a robust industrial base. The implementation of the Fit for 55 package, the Electricity Market Design reform, and the setting of the 2040 decarbonisation target will be examined, with particular focus on the implications for key sectors, including mobility, industry, electrification, hydrogen, and grids.

The course also delves into the priorities of the current European Commission, offering participants a chance to put policy into practice through a simulation game.

The course combines different learning approaches to ensure participants gain a comprehensive understanding of EU energy policy:

  • Interactive training sessions, providing both theoretical and practical insights into EU energy policy, the Fit for 55 package, and the broader context of the Clean Industrial Deal, focusing on regulatory implementation, compliance, and current policy priorities.
  • A Simulation game replicating the decision-making process in EU energy policy, allowing participants to engage directly with current issues and practice negotiating energy transition policies.
  • Guided discussions: senior trainers will lead exchanges on the latest internal and external developments in energy policy, engaging participants in analysing the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of EU energy.
  • Active debates: trainers and participants will engage in debates, encouraging diverse perspectives and facilitating critical thinking on the complexities of EU energy policy.

The course offers a comprehensive view of the EU's energy policy landscape, covering a wide range of topics and their practical implications, from just transition and consumer interests to renewable energy, electrification, energy security, and financing the transition. By providing a broad yet detailed understanding, it equips participants with the knowledge needed to navigate and contribute to the evolving energy policy environment in the European Union.
