Guest Lecture by Christophe De Nijs, Director General for European Affairs at the Belgian MFA

Earlier this month, we welcomed Christophe De Nijs, Director General for European Affairs at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a College of Europe alumnus, for a guest lecture with our students.

In a conversation with our resident professor Odeta Barbullushi, he spoke about the European project and the challenges the EU is facing in a changing geopolitical landscape, sharing his perspective from Belgium and his experience in European affairs. Students also learned more about how EU legislation is developed and adopted, including the role of the European Commission and the different stages of the legislative process.

They discussed competitiveness, security, enlargement, and reforms, and exchanged views with Christophe throughout the session. As a College of Europe alumnus, he also shared insights from his career and gave students a closer look at how European affairs and EU policymaking work in practice.

A big thank you to Christophe de Nijs for a great conversation with our students, and to the first Belgian Ambassador to Albania, Olga Cogen, for being with us.
