Linda VAN GOOR
- Visiting professor, Interdepartmental European Advanced Studies (IDEAs) (Campus Bruges)
Linda van Goor obtained a PhD in banking and spent 6 years as an academic teacher in corporate finance at the University of Amsterdam. She then moved to commercial banking as a lobbyist in the Basel II debate. When Basel II was published in 2004, van Goor moved to central banking as a representative of the Dutch central bank in European attempts for cross border cooperation. In 2007, van Goor was seconded to the European Commission’s banking unit, dealing with the great financial crisis and subsequent changes to the banking rules, notably the ones on consolidated and conglomerate supervision. In 2014, she observed that the bubbles of industry, central banking and politics needed regulatory communication amongst themselves, as the balance that does justice to all can only be found with mutual understanding. She has been supporting officials and supervisors since then, both as an expert for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and as an independent advisor backed by academic evidence and collected practitioners’ experience. She's increasingly spending her time on the application of financial policy to achieving a more sustainable and equitable society.
