Mathilde CERON

Matilde Ceron is a Research Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre of the European University Institute and at the University of Salzburg. In her Marie Skłodowska-Curie project she is particularly interested in EU conditionality and how gender equality commitments are embedded in EU policymaking, crisis governance, and economic governance, including the Recovery and Resilience Facility. In Salzburg, she has worked on the Horizon projects ActEU (Activating European Citizens’ Trust in Times of Crisis and Polarisation), focusing on gender equality policies and representation, and as an associated researcher on PushBackLash (Anti Gender Backlash and Democratic Pushback), working on gendering policy responses to the Covid-19 pandemic. She is a co-applicant with Zoe Lefkofridi for the Horizon project EDGE (Enhancing Democratic Support under Conditions of Geographic and Intersectional Inequalities in Europe), which, from October 2026, will research the intersectional impact of public policies.

She holds a PhD in Political Studies from the University of Milan, an MA in EU Public Policy Analysis from the College of Europe (Chopin promotion), and an MSc in Economics and Social Sciences from Bocconi University. Previously, she was a Max Weber Fellow at the EUI and held postdoctoral positions at Luiss University and the University of Pavia. Before her PhD, she worked in Brussels as a policy analyst at Deloitte Belgium, working on impact assessments and evaluations for the European institutions, in a think tank and as a trainee in the European Parliament.
