In addition to the regular academic programme, the Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies organises several extracurricular academic activities:

• Conferences and guest lectures on a broad range of topics related to the EU’s external relations are organised throughout the academic year.
• The Department offers to its students a short study trip to Geneva, the European centre for multilateral diplomacy.
• Every year, a group of students from the Department has the opportunity to participate in a Model United Nations (MUN) competition in addition to their regular coursework.
• In 2020-21 six students from the Department successfully took part in the online edition of the 36th edition of International Model NATO (IMNATO) organised by Howard University, Converse College and Kent State University, in collaboration with Embassies of NATO member states in Washington, DC.
• In 2018-19 a group of students from the Department participated in the NATO Debates on "Fulfilling NATO's burden-sharing commitments: Advocacy and policy proposals from the Alliance’s young leaders", an international competition of universities organised by the George Washington University.
• In 2015-16 a group of students from the Department took part in the P2P (Peer to Peer): Challenging Extremism programme, a global competition on countering extremism sponsored by the US Department of State and Facebook. The College of Europe team was selected among the finalists and in June 2016 presented its project in Washington DC.
