Do both starting routes have the same admissions requirements?
Yes. MATA applies the same academic and professional admissions requirements regardless of starting institution. The College of Europe and Fletcher administer separate application systems, deadlines, documentation, interviews and financial-aid processes.
Should I apply through both institutions?
Select the institution at which you wish to begin MATA and submit your application through that institution’s admissions process.
Do both routes lead to the same degree?
Yes. Both routes lead to one jointly awarded, 120-ECTS Master of Arts in Transatlantic Affairs. Graduates become alumni of both the College of Europe and The Fletcher School.
Is an admissions interview required?
Yes. All applicants selected for further consideration must participate in an admissions interview. The institution through which you apply will provide information about the interview process.
When do I choose my College of Europe study track?
Applicants beginning at the College of Europe identify their intended track during the College application process.
Fletcher starters select the College track through which they will continue the programme at the time of application.
What is the required level of English?
The language of instruction is English. A minimum C1 level under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Is another language required?
No additional language is currently required. Students with sufficient knowledge of French may take selected courses taught in French at the College of Europe.
Does MATA place students in internships?
No. Students identify and apply for internships independently, with guidance and access to career resources from both institutions. Proposed internships must meet MATA’s academic and professional requirements and receive programme approval.
Is the internship compulsory?
Most students follow a second-year route that includes an internship. Students beginning at the College of Europe may instead choose an approved route consisting of a full academic year of coursework at Fletcher.
Can I change my starting institution after admission?
Admission is linked to the institution and starting route through which you apply. Applicants should therefore select their starting institution carefully. Any exceptional change would require approval from both institutions.
